Iron boss: Scunny saved Beckford

Beckford's two goals helped Leeds to a fifth successive home win and enabled them to leapfrog Adkins' side into the top six for the first time since November with a 3-2 win. Beckford starred for the visitors two seasons ago and Adkins said: "He might have been on the scrap heap now because he was having a difficult time at Leeds. Then he came to our place and we put a smile back on his face. He has gone on to bigger and better things because he is a real talent. "We tried very hard to make him a Scunthorpe player but unfortunately it didn't turn out that way." Leeds midfielder Jonny Howson was sent off for a second bookable offence 10 minutes from the end of a bad-tempered contest and Adkins admitted winger Matthew Sparrow should also have incurred a red card for a bad tackle on Leeds defender Rui Marques in the first half. Adkins added: "It was a reckless challenge and we could have been down to 10 men. I've had a word with him about it, but apart from that he was excellent for us."
