Hayes rules out Iron return

Paul Hayes, the former Scunthorpe striker, has apparently ruled out a return to the club.

The Charlton forward was linked with a return by the Scunthorpe Telegraph on Thursday, with the newspaper suggesting a loan move back to Glanford Park was in the offing.

But the player, who was back in North Lincolnshire to take part in Cliff Byrne's Benefit Match, has said he will not be returning to the Iron.

"Out of respect to the Scunny fans I won't be coming back to the club," he said on his Twitter page

"I don't know where the rumours have come from, but I haven't heard anything about a loan move."

Iron supporters will hope his denials prove as reliable as David Mirfin's. The centre-back told fans on Sunday he would not be rejoining the club, before signing a two-year deal on Tuesday.
