Paul Hurst, one of Grimsby Town's co-managers, has insisted the non-league side are not about to make a move for the former Scunthorpe midfielder Sam Togwell.

The midfielder, 27, was one of 10 out-of-contract players released by Alan Knill, the Iron boss, this summer.A drop down to the Blue Square Premier always seemed unlikely, but the Grimsby Telegraph reported on Friday that Mariners fans had hoped for a move."He is a good player, but there is no truth in any move by us to sign him," Hurst told the newspaper."He has been playing at a good level and I don't think he would see himself dropping to the Conference."Garry Thompson, also released by the Iron this summer, has been linked with a move to Carlisle United by their local newspaper the News & Star.He is based in the Lake District so a move to the Cumbrian club would significantly reduce his commute, so they would seem a highly plausible destination.
