Daws sees positives in Ipswich display
Tony Daws, Scunthorpe's caretaker manager, praised the effort of his side during Saturday's 2-0 loss at Ipswich Town. Goals from Carlos Edwards and Jimmy Bullard condemned the Iron to a defeat which leaves them five points adrift of the final safe position. "It was a fair result and we were beaten by two class goals. It’s been a difficult week for the club but a lot of credit has to go to our players, because we had a real good go," said Daws. “They’re lacking in confidence because we’ve had a difficult season but I don’t think they could have given anything more, in terms of effort. “The mood was bright heading into the game. No one was sulking and we tried to come here to enjoy it, by getting the ball down and passing it. “The lads have been under a lot of pressure because we’ve been on a losing streak but in terms of what we got today there were one or two building blocks. There were quite a lot of positives.” The former Iron forward stressed he does not consider himself a candidate to replace Ian Baraclough on a permanent basis “I’ve enjoyed it and it’s been a good experience but whether I’ll be doing it in the future I don’t know," he said. “I haven’t applied because I don’t feel that at this stage I’m ready for the job. I feel you need someone with experience, when it comes to managing in the Championship. “An experienced manager who has been there and done it before would be the best option. “The chairman has told me not to worry about my position. I’m head of the youth department and I enjoy it and feel I’m reasonably good at it."Paul Jewell, the Ipswich boss, felt the two goals were highlights of the match. “They were two great goals that would grace any game. It was lovely to see them go in but in between we had lots of opportunities to put the game to bed," he said. “Missing chances is our Achilles heel. We should have scored three or four in the first half and, had that happened, we might have produced a better performance in the second-half."
