Chris Dagnall, the Rochdale forward, looks likely to move to Glanford Park this summer after describing Scunthorpe as his "number one" choice of new club. The forward, 24, is a wanted man after scoring 20 goals for Dale as they won the League Two this season. Speculation on the Iron-Bru.net messageboard had linked him with a move to North Lincolnshire, which he has now confirmed after meeting the United manager Nigel Adkins. "My main choice would be Scunthorpe. That is my number one. I'm impressed by how they've done in the last couple of years and it's flattering for me to have a club like Scunthorpe showing interest in me," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph. "I just want to play at the highest level I can play and Scunthorpe are in the Championship, which is a pretty high level. It's a big step up if I do get the chance to go there, but I'm sure it would be a good move for me." He is considering a contract offer to stay at Rochdale, while Millwall, Huddersfield and Charlton have expressed an interest. If playing at the highest level if Dagnall's priority, that would leave Millwall as the Iron's biggest competition. The Lions will take on Swindon Town in the League One play-off final next Saturday. United are searching for at least one new forward after Paul Hayes moved to Preston on a Bosman transfer and Ben May was released, leaving Gary Hooper as the only out-and-out striker in the first-team. Garry Thompson may be pushed into a striking role, from his usual position on the right wing, having scored nine goals last season while operating as an emergency forward.
