Reuben Noble-Lazarus joined the Iron on loan until January yesterday and ex Manchester United striker Cofie could follow after Saturday's home game with Accrington.
Tykes boss David Flitcroft told the Barnsley Chronicle: "It is possible that John Cofie could go to Scunthorpe as well but it depends how Reuben fits in there.
"I trust Brian Laws (Scunthorpe manager) and his assistant Russ Wilcox. They have been admirers of Reuben for quite some time."
