A pitch inspection is set to be held on Christmas Eve to determine whether the Boxing Day home clash with Preston North End will go ahead. The game is likely to fall foul of the cold snap with temperatures rarely rising above freezing in the run up to the crucial clash against fellow strugglers Preston. General manager David Beeby told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk: "The pitch is frozen in large areas so we have been in touch with Preston North End and the Football League. "Looking at the forecast for the rest of the week it is not expected to get much above freezing. "We've asked whether it would be possible for a Football League-appointed local referee to come and look at the pitch on Christmas Eve.
