Byrne hails new starter Niall
The 18-year-old, who signed his first professional deal with the Iron this summer, replaced Rob Jones at Hillsborough after the former Hibernian defender was stretchered off with a head injury.
Canavan was making his first appearance for the club and made an instant impression on skipper Bryne.
"Niall was terrific." Byrne told the club's official website. "He came on in severely difficult circumstances with the team not performing well and being 2-0 down so early.
"He acquitted himself well and will learn a lot from that experience out there. He's got to take it on board. I'm sure he'll progress and develop into a good player."
