Adkins relief at play-off place

A dramatic 88th-minute equaliser from skipper Cliff Byrne snatched the Iron a 1-1 draw and a top six place after Rovers had taken the lead through Craig Curran but then saw Gareth Edds dismissed in the 87th minute. And although Adkins admitted his team were second best on the day, he was pleased that they managed to grind out the point they required. He said: "For most of this season we have played some bright, attacking football but for some reason it just did not happen. "We wanted to get on the front foot and get at them but credit to Tranmere for the way they played. "As the second half unfolded we did put them under pressure but missed a number of chances that we would have taken earlier in the season. But you never give up hope, you always try and stay positive on the touchline and we just managed to get the result we needed."
