39 United fans facing bans

The number of fans banned from Scunthorpe United's Glanford Park ground has increased three-fold in the past 10 months.

The club's general manager David Beeby, has confirmed the current figure stands at 39 – banned for varying periods of up to 10 years.

The sharp rise is mainly due to Operation Feather – a joint initiative involving Humberside Police and the club – undertaken following a pitch invasion and disorder outside Glanford Park during the final home game of the season against Swindon Town in April.

Chief Superintendent Tony Forbes, divisional commander for the South Bank, told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "We took a decision that if we did not launch a full investigation that people would think that disorder is fair game at Scunthorpe United football matches.

"We want Scunthorpe United to be a place where families can go to enjoy the football, a place where people are happy to go to without the threat of violence or disorder".
