Within Touching Distance Of Title Again
Glasgow City can wrap up the WSPL title tomorrow but Hibs will not be keen of their rivals winning the prize on their home ground. Could be quite a game
Glasgow City welcomed no fewer than 10 players back from international duty yesterday as the club prepared for another big game on Sunday as the team line up against Hibernian, knowing they need one more point to clinch the Premier League title. After a stalemate against Rangers in terrible weather conditions in City’s last outing, the reigning champions sit 11 points clear at the top of the SWPL with four games remaining. Second placed Hibs, however, will be an extremely difficult test for City as head coach Eddie Wolecki Black is well aware. He said: “During my time, Hibs have been the constant challengers to us on all fronts. At the start of this season I don't think anyone would have given them a chance as potential title challengers. Having seen so many players leave in the close season even I was sceptical as to the level they could achieve. However the coaching staff and players have rallied superbly and reached the semi-finals of both Cups and sit comfortably in second place. Therefore they have shown they not only have the ability to fight for trophies they also have the consistency. As for ourselves, we have an objective to achieve and we will be going all out to win our seventh title in a row. Due to the international break preparations this week have been fragmented as we have had to deal with a severely limited squad in terms of numbers. Friday night sees us back together as a team. The great side of international football is that when the countries the players represent do well the players return very upbeat and confident. This has been a good week. Particularly pleasing has been the contribution of our players in those international performances. I am hoping they can continue this form on Sunday and in doing so rewrite the history books. Hibs will not want us to be celebrating a title win on their ground and will be determined to ensure we leave empty handed. However I have no doubts in this group of players. We know what's at stake, we know the title is within our grasp and we know we are going to have to perform to get our hands on that trophy again.”Glasgow City take on HIbs at Albyn Park, Broxburn tomorrow with kick off set for 2pm.
