Winters Could Be Contented
Robbie Winters could be the man in the right place at the right time to help Peterhead
Peterhead striker Davie Ross has suffered a broken collar-bone but that cloud may have a silver lining attached for former Scotland, Dundee United, Aberdeen and Livingston striker Robbie Winters. With Ross due to be out for some time, Winters may get a deal with the Balmoor side. Winters, who has one Scotland cap and played for Brann Bergen in Norway, has been working with the Blue Toon as a trialist in 3 pre-season games and must have shown what he can do to be considered for a contract. He came on for the injured Ross in Sunday’s 6-1 win over Huntly. Winters scored twice and was instrumental in another goal when his 25 yard shot hit the bar and then hit opposing goalkeeper Neil Hastie before going in and Balmoor manager Jim McInally is now keen to hold signing talks. McInally said: "Davie’s injury does leave us a player short for a decent period of time but I am not sure if we can do anything with Robbie. He has brought out the best in Rory McAllister and Martin Bavidge in his appearances but he has had offers from elsewhere as well. I will speak to the Chairman and with the Rangers game coming up there may be a bit more of a budget available. Davie is going to need an operation and it a real blow for the boy as he was part of my plans for the new season. He has not had the best of luck during my time at the club with injuries but hopefully he will back before too long."
