Windy Conditions Are All Part Of The Game

Living and playing football in Scotland means that you can get all types of weather in the span of a game. There is little you can do about it

Aberdeen's Richard Foster does not have any bother with wind. While that is good news for him and his immediate family, he also does not believe games should be postponed because of high winds. The Dons and Hearts had to cope with windy conditions when they met on Wednesday night but Fosters thinks that is all part of the game. The game at Fir Park had to be postponed due to structural damage after gusts of up to 80 miles per hour hit Motherwell but all five other SPL games went ahead. Aberdeen and Hearts struggled for creativity at Pittodrie as strong winds came in off the North Sea but Foster does not think much can be done about it. Foster said: "Especially when the ball is in the air, it's very difficult to judge. You saw cases where the ball was moving on the deck as well, which isn't nice to play in. But it's a difficult one. When do you call the game off? Aberdeen's always windy so at what speed is the wind too much? So I do think they need to go ahead. It's part of playing for Aberdeen in the winter and you just need to get on with it." Foster felt Aberdeen played reasonably well in the circumstances without threatening their guests that often. He said: "We played well enough, it was just in the final third we didn't create any clear-cut chances, but we got into good areas. The wind made it very difficult but we kept the ball down as much as we could and over the piece we played really well."
