Who Wouldn't Want To Win A Trophy

Scotland don't get many chance to pick up silverware so why not go for it when you get the chance Peter Houston reminded everybody that Scotland have a rare chance to pick up some silverware in Dublin this week. Scotland take on Wales and Republic of Ireland in the second part of the Carling Nations Cup hoping to build on the 3-0 win over Northern Ireland in the first game at the Aviva Stadium in February. Craig Levein's squad met up at Mar Hall Hotel ahead of Wednesday night's game against the Welsh which assistant Houston is focusing on before turning his attention to the Irish on Sunday - where he hopes to see the first trophy picked up by a Scotland captain since the 2006 Kirin Cup in Japan.  The Dundee United manager and Scotland assistant manager said: "It is not often that we, as a nation, have a chance to win a trophy. In Japan it was the Kirin Cup that Scotland won and it was brilliant. I remember watching it as a fan and I think the Carling Nations Cup comes into that (category). We did well against Northern Ireland but there are two difficult games to come. We will be going out to win this cup and I think that takes away the notion that it is a friendly match. I know it is the end of the season but we have a lot of young, fit players. And I go back to the fact that we have a squad of players here desperate to play for Scotland. We have huge spirit within the squad. Having won the first game we know, first and foremost, that the game against Wales on Wednesday is an important game and we want to win that. We know the Republic are a strong side as well but we have to focus on Wales to have a chance to win the cup. I think the lads are up for it. We have given ourselves a wonderful opportunity by winning the first game. We know we have two very difficult games ahead but that is what we are here for and everything is very positive."
