Which Wish List Will Be Fulfilled?

Colin Calderwood needs to boost Hibs soon and the transfer window may allow him to start forming a squad of his own The time has come for all good managers to be writing their wish lists for the post-Christmas transfer window opportunity to switch players around to get the balance right for the rest of the season. Not every club will have the money to get everybody they want, and some players will be asked to move on when they do not necessarily want to go. Colin Calderwood has a huge task ahead of him as he has 16 players currently on the Hibs books who have contracts which end in the summer which allows them to talk to other clubs from 1 January 2011. Calderwood has to decide if he should offer them new deals while he looks to augment his squad with new signings. Speaking after Saturday's game away to Hamilton was postponed, Calderwood said: "We're assessing them as they go on. It's something that will be addressed more and more within the next five to six weeks. It's not tied down in black and white where we are. The players do have the option to go to other clubs and we've got to be aware of that." While time is pressing regarding contract talks, Calderwood has been distracted by trying to get results on the pitch. He has managed to deliver a mixed bag of results since succeeding John Hughes in October with two wins, four defeats and one draw. Seven points out of a possible 21 is not the return the fans or Calderwood wanted to see following his arrival to revive the Easter Road side's fortunes. Discussions have taken place with "one or two" players so far. Calderwood went on: "Our concentration has been on the games. (The) January (transfer window) is getting very close but it's just normal practice - scouting and recruitment. We've got to make sure we've got personnel going on that will help us from February onwards, but in reality you really want people who will be here longer than that." When asked pointedly about the future of Derek Riordan, who was sent off in the Edinburgh derby last month after being handed the Hibs captaincy and is out of contract at the end of the season, Calderwood was non-committal. He said: "We definitely have to have someone like him at the club. He's one of the better players, has an influence and is a goalscorer, so you obviously want to keep those types."
