What's The Rush To Move?

Terry Butcher does not see the sense in Jonny Hayes moving just yet

Terry Butcher sees Jonny Hayes as a central figure in his plans for his Inverness side and asked him to reject any overtures to go elsewhere. The winger is out of contract this summer and Butcher wants to discuss his future after Caley's final game of the season, against Hibs on Saturday. Butcher is willing to offer a two-year deal to fend off potential challenges from the likes of Aberdeen and other interested clubs. The Englishman see this will give Hayes the chance to really show what he can do before moving to a destination of his choosing. The former England captain cited to move of Adam Rooney, who signed for Birmingham last summer but has been a bit-part player for the Blues this season. Butcher said: "Do you want to be just a squad player? Jonny's one that needs to play all the time and he's a character and a very good player that should play all the time. Adam's moved, what's the rush to move? I want to sign Jonny on a two-year deal. Have a good year here and then you might have the pick of your clubs after that year. His choice of clubs now might be limited, but if he has a good season with us in the SPL and he does really well, then he might be able to go to a club that he wants to go to. When Jonny came here his career was going nowhere. When we first saw him I thought 'Wow, we've got something special here' and we have, even more so now. Loyalty is a great thing in football. It's very rare. But when you look at what the club's done for Jonny and what he's given to the club, it's been a good marriage." Butcher is looking to record and fifth home win of the season and Hayes could play his part for Inverness this weekend. Butcher said: "I want our players to go out there and play for these three points as if it's the most vital three points of the season. Hibs have beaten us twice, we think unfairly. We should've got at least two draws from those matches, if not six points. But it's not about making amends on Saturday, it's about finishing it off well and making sure we beat Hibs this season, which we haven't done." Hibs will be looking ahead to the first all-Edinburgh Scottish Cup final since 1896 the following week, hoping to lift the trophy for the first time in 110 years. Butcher believes Easter Road counterpart Pat Fenlon will be worried about the trip to Inverness. Butcher said: "He realises coming up here is one of the worst places he could possibly visit the game before the cup final because we'll be bang at it. I know what I would do. I'd rest a few people to make sure you could be immortalised by beating Hearts in the final and you don't want anything coming in your way."
