What Is The Point Of Playing Brazil?

Not everybody is in awe of the mighty Brazil Not much has changed since those heady days of Spain 82 and Italia 90. We start off by saying we are going to give them a game then we end up on the game with Brazil. We go from equal partnership to crazed stalker in 90 minutes and it is all a bit depressing, maybe even more so than our shot shy national team. Chick Young was the worst of the media sycophants even going as far as to ask Stephen Crainey on Radio Scotland what it was like to stand near Brazil players.  STV gave us another throwback to the 80s when the original Alan MacPartridge, aka former boy broadcaster and wannabe American, Derek Rae, boomed out Samba stats and Brazilian geography aplenty in commentary on the commercial channel. Like most Scots Rae and sidekick Kevin Gallacher just seemed happy to be near the yellow shirts but with the Dark Blues giving our media little to get excited about it was maybe no surprise we reverted to the "Brazil are wonderful" line.  I for one see no merit in playing Brazil as we go all wet in their presence. STV and Radio Scotland were so busy praising the 'home' side at the Emirates that they failed to offer any real critique on a Scots side that continues workmanlike but woeful in the last third against decent opposition and remember the Czech Republic are coming soon. Even the normally informative Alex McLeish on STV got lost in translation. Sure, they are great but how ordinary were we Eck?  Viewing and listening to Brazil v Scotland from the couch was sadly a bit like an watching an episode of Stars in their eyes. No more Brazil friendlies please, it only encourages our media to reinstate the Scottish cringe!
