Webster pulls out of Scotland squad

Andy Webster has pulled out of the Scotland squad for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Lithuania and Liechtenstein after failing to recover from a hamstring injury.

The defender enjoyed a successful loan spell at Dundee United last season but his Rangers career continues to be dogged by bad luck. After completing pre-season, Webster has not featured in either of the club's opening Clydesdale Bank Premier League games and will miss Saturday's visit of St Johnstone.

Rangers manager Walter Smith said: "I thought he was going to be fit last weekend but on the morning of the game he felt his hamstring again."

He added: "I think it`s a sciatic problem. He is not fit for this weekend and he has obviously had to pull out of the internationals.

"Hopefully that will settle down for obvious reasons of needing everyone available."

The 28-year-old has only made one appearance for Rangers since joining the club from Wigan, initially on loan, in January 2007.

"He completed pre-season training and played a couple of games in Australia but hasn`t been able to train or play for maybe five weeks," Smith said.

"The longer it goes, the more time it takes him to get back."
