Wanted: League Goals For Aberdeen

While Aberdeen are putting in decent performances the goal tally is a bit short of what is required

Aberdeen take on SPL leaders Motherwell tomorrow and hope to improve on recent performances in the goal department. Only three goals have been added to the 'goals for' column in the league table for seventh placed Aberdeen. This is three less than Motherwell's Michael Higdon has scored on his own in his last three appearances. Despite the lack of goals so far for the Dons,  Gavin Rae is confident they will come. The former Rangers, Cardiff and Dundee midfielder can understand the frustrations of the fans as they want goals and three points to go along with good performances. Unfortunately for Aberdeen, league placings are not decided on style of play just yet.  Rae said: "In the majority of games we have played quite well without getting the results we have merited. Obviously it is very frustrating but we have just got to put that right. The performances, last Saturday apart (against Inverness), have been pretty favourable, pretty good to be honest. If we had a bit of luck and bit more composure in previous games we might have had a few more goals so hopefully we can put it all together and, as well as playing well, get the goals. Without doubt there is goals in our squad. But everyone in the team has to chip in, whether it be defenders from corners or set-pieces, midfielders linking up and obviously the forward players. It's not just one person, it's everyone, we have to score more goals as a team and I'd like to chip in. I feel I've done all right so far, I'm reasonably happy but you always strive to do better. I got a goal but it was in the cup so it would be nice to get one in the league as well." Looking to Sunday's opposition, Rae highlighted striker Higdon's goal haul as one reason why the Steelmen are at the top of the table. He said: "They have done really well in the last couple of seasons with limited resources. Higdon up front has been getting a few goals which makes a big difference and that is what we are looking to do as well."
