Our reporter in Spain watched the game with the locals. No haggis eating, tartan wearing, true blooded Scot thought we would get anything out of the game last night and in terms of points that proved true but we did get our pride back and to score two goals against the world champions shows there is life in the team we had all thought was well past recovery. Before the match all locals here were convinced Scotland would win, this was based on a past reputation for Scots playing a full blooded game, attack, attack, tackle, tackle. Surprise was that in sections of the game last night so it proved. The Spanish do not see to much close tackling in their domestic game except close to the penalty box, their outfield play is firmly based on slick fast accurate inter-passing where the opposition usually close space down instead of sliding in to tackle. Hence them being wary of the willingness of the home team last night to fight for every ball everywhere. However quality shows in every walk of life and football is no different. But the thrill of a fighting comeback by a team lacking star players is a always a sight to see. The result was and is incidental, the victory was for the Scots deserved in terms of spirit, endeavour and restored pride. Apparently we can still rise now and be a football nation again, as the song goes. Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is ScottishFitba Net
