United In Dark Over Loan Deal Possibility

Dundee United want to bring one of their old boys back on loan but do not appear to be able to offer the right deal to Blackburn Rovers

Dundee United are still pondering whether to go back with a revised loan offer for David Goodwillie after their initial approach was rebuffed. The striker left Tannadice for Blackburn Rovers in August 2011, with the Ewood Park side winning the race for the Scotland international. Things have not gone swimmingly for Goodwillie since then and he has only made sporadic appearances for Rovers. He was also sent out on loan to Crystal Palace at the start of the 2012/13 season. Dundee United have made no secret of their admiration for Goodwillie and approached Blackburn earlier in the year regarding the possibility of putting a loan deal in place. They have seen their efforts knocked back so far and United manager Jackie McNamara admits he is in the dark when it comes to further transfer talks.McNamara said: "We made an approach to Blackburn. They said it wasn't enough, so that's where we are at the moment. If we go back in, we'll see. We have got other targets we are trying to pursue and hopefully we can get the right ones in. I think he's a very good player but there has to be a line as well. It's a loan. It's different if you're buying someone and they are going to be an asset to your club. He's a fantastic player and I would like the chance to work with him, but he's not our player. You can only try. So far it's not been successful, but we have got other players there we can add as well."
