Billy Mehmet leaves the Buddies for Ankera With one deal in the bag already, Turkish side Genclerbirligi are hoping to sign Michael Stewart from Hearts to join Billy Mehmet who has signed from St Mirren. The deal will start from 1 July when his Paisley contract expires, and he will join his new club on a three-year deal. Genclerbirligi have confirmed that they are also looking to finalise a similar deal for Stewart. The Scotland international midfielder is also a free agent and he looks set to leave Hearts after arriving in Ankara for talks. Speaking after completing his deal, Mehmet said that he was pleased - but also paid tribute to his former boss. Mehmet said: "I can't thank Gus MacPherson and Andy Millen enough.  They have been great with me and I just hope the board at the club will give them the backing they deserve as they could do so much. The fans have been incredible and I would like to pay tribute to them as they have been tremendous throughout my stay with the club. There were offers from Scotland and England, but when the chance to move to Turkey came up, I had to give it a look. And when I saw the facilities and the club I could not say no."
