Tough Decisions Have To Be Made As Early As Possible

Nobody likes to make hard decisions but sometimes they just have to be made for the greater good.

Hibs chairman Rod Petrie knows all about having to make painful decisions to control the financial integrity of a football club. Often accused of being parsimonious with any money to improve the Easter Road squad, Petrie has steered Hibs through some tough financial times and the club is now on an even keel. Last years figures showed a loss of under half a million - the first loss posted in ten years. He was involved in the 'Scottish Football: The Debate' on TV last night where he said that the "sporting integrity" of the SPL could be compromises by the fall out of administration affected Rangers. Administrators Duff and Phelps have been working out how to cut £1million per month from the Ibrox budget to avoid liquidation. To that end, some players could be leaving amid ongoing talks and Gregg Wylde and Mervan Celik have already volunteered to walk away. Petrie said: "Scottish football needs successful clubs who are well-managed. There are a lot of clubs in the SPL who have taken their own share of pain and have budgets and who have adhered to their budgets. The thing that needs to be maintained right throughout is sporting integrity. We need to ensure that the competition is fair. Each club has its own budgets and its own resources. If you have a plan and can finance it then fine. The important thing is sporting integrity and we have to make sure that the competition is balanced and fair. We are going to see Rangers continue to play with a depleted squad against clubs who they played against earlier in the season when they had a stronger squad. We need to make sure the fixtures are fulfilled and it is a fair and balanced competition."
