Alloa could not hang onto the Oban Cup for a second year Alloa manager Allan Maitland was not too disappointed as his side relinquished their hold on their Oban Cup crown at the weekend after finishing bottom of the six team table. Maitland said:  “It was fantastic to win the tournament last year and a lot of that success was built on winning the first game. This year we had Dundee United in the opening encounter and we went down to a late goal so we could not build up any momentum.”  Hamilton’s under-19 side defeated the Wasps with a deflected effort in a 1-0 win and St Johnstone’s youngsters beat Maitland’s men by the same score with a goal that was surprisingly allowed to stand when goalkeeper Jamie Ewings was barged to the ground.Alloa’s day just got worse against Hearts as their trialist defender turned an effort into his own goal to give the Jambos another 1-0 win. Maitland went on: “You could say things went against us quite spectacularly but in terms of building fitness up it was a great day. We defeated Oban Saints 2-0 in the final game and we played better as the games went along so we will look to come back next year and win again.” Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is Scottish-Fitba Net
