Tonight's The Night

Glasgow City face Standard Liege today in the first leg away tie of the last 32 of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

City, who came through their qualification group stages after topping Group 8, meet the Belgium champions who progressed automatically through to the knock out rounds due to a higher co-efficient and so enter the competition at this stage. Both City and Standard Liege have plenty of experience in this competition, although the two sides have never met. Liege compete in the joint Belgium and Dutch BeNe League where they finished close runners up to FC Twente, who the Scottish Champions defeated 2-0 in a very tough game in the group stages back in August.Commenting on the challenge facing his side, City head coach Eddie Wolecki Black said:  "As a club we have been waiting for this tie to come around. To be honest, we have had very little chance to focus on it because we have been so concentrated on tying up the domestic league title and then were occupied at the weekend for the semi-final of the national cup. The players have had no respite and we have undertaken three very light training sessions since we have been here. The players seem focused, relaxed and determined. We are well aware of how difficult our opponent is going to be after meeting their fellow League members FC Twente in our qualifying group and we know that only our best performance will give us a positive result to take back to Glasgow for the return leg next week."Glasgow City take on Standard Liege tonight at 7pm CET, at the Stade Maurice Defrasne. Full match commentary can be followed on Glasgow City FC twitter account @GlasgowCityFC. The return leg will be on Thursday 17th October at City’s home ground of Petershill Park, Glasgow, G21 4DD. Kick off is 7pm and tickets are available at www.glasgowcityladiesfc.co.uk.
