Second place can be improved upon

Stuart McCall remains focused on the job he has in hand; to improve on the showing his side achieved this year. His Motherwell side suffered a 2-0 loss to St Johnstone in the last league game of the season but McCall does not think that should overshadow their impressive campaign. McCall was unhappy with the result but keen to focus on the positives of the campaign that has seen them finish as runners-up in the SPL.He said: "I was disappointed we lost the game. There are no excuses. St Johnstone had the bit between the teeth. I don't like losing anything but we have to take a reality check. It's not been about today, it's been about the season."As ever, a little success makes a manager a wanted man and McCall has been linked with Doncaster and Sheffield United. However, he was planning for the future at Fir Park. He added: "It's all speculation and until someone asks to speak to me, that's what it is. We are certainly planning. We gave Simon Ramsden a two-year deal a couple of days ago. We will hopefully tie up a deal tomorrow for a new player coming in. You've got to be planning."
