Time For Dons To Focus

Morton will be out to emulate East Fife from last season

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown does not want his players to be complacent when they head to Greenock to take on Morton in the Scottish Communities League Cup tonight. Brown has seen his side struggle against lower league opposition in the past, losing to East Fife last season and forced to a replay by Queen of the South. The ex-Scotland manager has urged his squad to learn the lessons of their cup fixtures from last season. Brown said: "I think we have to be aware of the difficulty we had at Queen of the South last year away from home. So, there will be no complacency. We have to be properly focused against Morton or we'll suffer the consequences because obviously having worked at that level, I've got good respect for teams in that league. Morton are a team with great tradition and a fighting capacity, so it will be a difficult game." Aberdeen picked up their first three points of the league season with a win over St Johnstone on Saturday, thanks to goals from Isaac Osbourne and Johnny Hayes. Under Brown, the Dons have reached three out of the last four semi-finals - only to lose on all three occasions at Hampden. Brown is keen to stress the huge significance of a strong cup run and hopes his Pittodrie  men can build on their 2-1 win at McDiarmid Park. Brown said: "We are going there well aware of the importance of the fixture and difficulty of the fixture. So don't think for one minute because we had a reasonable result on Saturday that it is automatic that we just turn up and win this one match. We know there is a lot of work to be done. We look forward and try to build on that and if we're careless at all or lose concentration, we could suffer the consequences. We have done that in the past against lower-league opposition so we want to maintain our good cup records. But no disrespect to Morton, we should be capable of overcoming a team from a lower division."
