The Tie Is Not Won yet

Scotland's Under 21s need to win against Iceland and nothing can be taken for granted. Scotland Under-21 skipper Paul Caddis wants Scotland fans not to take it for granted that they will stroll the European Championship qualifying play-off against Iceland. After finishing top of Group 10 with a last-gasp win over Austria at Pittodrie last month, Billy Stark's side were paired with the Icelanders with the first leg in Reykjavik on Thursday and the return game at Easter Road next Monday. The winners of the play-off will get a place in the finals which take place in Denmark next summer. Asked if the result is taken for granted, Caddis said: "It is not a danger for the players but I think it is a danger for the country. I hope the nation doesn't think that because we are playing against Iceland, that it's an easy game and we are just going to go through. They deserve to be there as much as we do and if people have been following the Under-21s they will see that Iceland drew 2-2 in Germany and then beat them 4-1. So they are no pushovers. I hear that Iceland are bringing a lot of players back from their senior team which shows a bit of respect for us. But no matter which 11 they put out, we know they are going to be a really good side and tough to break down. We need to, first and foremost, not concede. No matter what game you play in you are guaranteed to get a chance and hopefully we take it, If we keep a clean sheet in the away game then then you could say it's in our hands for the return game." Caddis, who joined Swindon from Celtic in the summer, admits reaching the finals would be the perfect climax to his under-21 career. He said: "It is my last year with the under-21s and and there would be no better way to finish than to get the finals. And as captain, I feel it would be an even bigger privilege. It's been a long campaign, lasting over a year and a half. In the first game I was on loan at Dundee United, that shows you how long ago it was - I'm on my third club now. But we've stuck in and you never know what can happen now." Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba.net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
