The Finales

20 May 2010 19:32
Another update from our Spanish correspondent. On Saturday night the first of the concluding matches of the season took place. Seville needed to win to get into Europe, and in a separate game played at the same time Majorca were looking to get into Europe for the first time in their history. But needed Seville to lose or draw to do so.Majorca duly won their match and the players were sitting on the pitch watching the injury time action of the Seville game on the big screens at their stadium, Seville were drawing meaning if no change Majorca would qualify. It was tense stuff with the screen split here to show both grounds, one set of players watching, praying, hoping for the other match to end in a draw, meanwhile the other set (Seville) were running out of time, praying, hoping and playing for a miracle winner. In the 4th and final minute of injury time Seville in a last gasp attack crossed the ball left to right across the penalty box then from right to left, then a shot and GOAL. The game was over and so was Majorca’s dream for another season. Split screen ecstasy in Seville despondency in Majorca.Sunday, the big finale, would Real Madrid win and Barcelona lose making Real the champions as every one locally wished? Would Malaga everyone local’s second team do the right thing and let Real beat them? Would Barcelona falter? No. No. No. No and …..no.Barcelona won emphatically making the Real versus Malaga game pointless, well a point each actually killing off Madrid’s chances. Same story of split screen players and fans crying in Madrid while there was ecstasy in Barcelona with a post match light show and celebration like I’ve never seen before, to say nothing of the street parties.  All this and the world cup to come, though it is interesting to note that Real’s best player is Portuguese and Barcelona’s best player is Argentinean. May the best Latin team win. My tip, Argentina. Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba.net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
