Amatuer players in the womens game need all the help they can get and the Clydesdale Bank has stepped in with some much needed support.

Glasgow City have secured backing from Clydesdale Bank's Paisley Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) for 2012. Winners of the Scottish Women’s Premier League for a record breaking five seasons in a row, Glasgow City will now wear the Clydesdale Bank logo on the back of their home kit. They wore the kit when they met Arsenal in a pre-season friendly on Sunday and will wear it when it matters as the league starts again on 18 March. The players art Glasgow City are still playing in an unpaid capacity and combine full time jobs or studies with training up to ten times a week. This level of a commitment and ability saw them go all the way to the last sixteen of the UEFA Women’s Champions League last season against fully professional sides across the continent. It was at one of City’s Champions League game when Clydesdale's Paisley FSC decided to give its backing to Scottish women’s sport at its best.

Glasgow City Club Manager, Laura Montgomery said: "To have Clydesdale Bank on board as one of our main supporters hopefully highlights the professionalism of our club both on and off the park. To have one of the most famous institutions in Scotland behind us is a brilliant boost for the season ahead and we will proudly wear their logo as we aim to defend our Championship title and Scottish Cup triumph from last year as well as competing once more in the biggest stage of them all, the UEFA Women’s Champions League."
