Thanks But No Says McLeish

Office politics would appear to be too much for Henry McLeish when he was asked about taking on the job of SFA Chief Executive. Former First Minister Henry McLeish has decided he has had enough politics and has ruled himself out of any race to succeed Gordon Smith as SFA chief executive. The author of Scottish Football Review appears to be willing to work as a consultant for football's ruling body in Scotland but not on a full time basis. Speaking at Hampden on Friday morning to discuss the recommendations from the first part of his review, McLeish announced he would be involved in helping implement some of the changes he has proposed. But asked whether he was interested in doing that from the position of chief executive, he said: "No. I'm flattered. If we can get some progress on the recommendations, that will be worthwhile for me. If I can make a contribution in this direction, I'd be quite happy to leave the chief executive of the SFA to the powers that be."Asked his opinion on whether it would be beneficial to see his recommendations put into place if the next chief executive was from a football or business background, McLeish said: "This is a matter for the SFA." McLeish is the second man linked with the job to rule himself out of the running, with SFA vice-president and Hearts managing director, Campbell Ogilvie, also believed not to be interested in working back in Glasgow Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is Scottish-Fitba Net
