Team Of The Year

Glasgow City were last night very proudly awarded 'Team of the Year' at the sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards, sponsored by the Sunday Mail.

The Scottish Sports Awards are Scotland’s showpiece event to celebrate all levels of sporting success across the nation and brought together some of the most famous faces in sport for the glittering night at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow. Hosted by Sky Sports presenter Jim White the evening was a fantastic celebration of sport. Glasgow City’s continued dominance of the domestic game and in particular the record breaking achievement of winning two trebles in a row, combined with reaching the last 16 in the Champions League, convinced the judges that City are Scotland’s Team of the Year for 2013. Commenting on the award, City Club Manager Laura Montgomery said: "It is an incredible honour for us to receive such a prestigious award. We truthfully didn’t think we stood a chance given the calibre of performances by teams in Scotland this season and were delighted just to be shortlisted down to the final three, along with the Glasgow Warriors and the Scotland Women’s Curling team. From a personal point of view, I am glad the efforts of our team and coaching staff have been recognised at the highest level. Sometimes those outside our club can feel that winning is easy, because we have made a habit of it over the last seven years in particular, but it most definitely is not easy. Each year, we work harder and harder to not sustain where we are at, but to improve. Our coaching staff challenge themselves and the players to reach new levels at every training session and hopefully this award gives credit to everything all members of Glasgow City have achieved. It is not simply our first team who make this happen, but every player and member of staff from our Under 9’s upwards."
