Kris Boyd has ambitions to be top goal-scorer in top flight
Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd is on the verge of taking on the mantle of leading goal scorer in Scottish top-flight football since the formation of the SPL. Boyd is hoping today will be the day he scores for the 175th time as Killie take on Dundee United at Rugby Park. The top place is currently shared between Boyd and Henrik Larsson after the former scored in Kilmarnock's 2-1 win over Ross County last weekend. Boyd has not been so prolific as the ex-Celtic player as he has taken almost 100 games more to reach the milestone. Larsson racked up his tally during 221 SPL appearances for Celtic before going on to play for Barcelona and Manchester United. That does not mean that Boyd is not thrilled to have the opportunity to overtake a legend of the Scottish game.Boyd said: "I'm not going to sit here and say 'Kris Boyd's as good as Henrik Larsson' because I know I'm nowhere near that. The things that he's achieved in the game and the things he went on to do after Celtic and even during Celtic and even before that even at international level, to have scored the same amount of goals in the league, I'm delighted about that but I'm hungry, I want more."The Striker's Union was in full flow now as Boyd praised his former Rangers and Scotland strike-partner Kenny Miller. Boyd went on: "Kenny Miller, we struck up a good understanding with each other at club level and at international level, we scored umpteen amount of goals. Kenny done the other side of the game which enabled me to get into the box and score the amount of goals I did. So I think Kenny would probably be the best partner I've played with."
