Talented Dressing Room Doesn't Win Points

Every team on their day can beat anybody. St Mirren have to learn how to win when they are having an off day. Goalkeeper Paul Gallacher is confident St Mirren can find the consistency needed to get away from the bottom of the SPL. The Buddies have failed to get any kind of run going so far this season with the festive period being a prime example. An encouraging away Boxing Day win at Inverness was followed by home losses to Hearts and Kilmarnock. Manager Danny Lennon was very unhappy at the way his players failed to respond positively to Liam Kelly's opener for Killie on Monday before a deflected Craig Bryson shot sealed the win for the Rugby Park men. Saints are second bottom of the SPL but Gallacher insists they have the players to get back on track. He said: "We have a fantastic dressing room with a lot of talented players and great belief. We have been disappointed with the way the results have gone. We have had three tough games over the festive period but we were hoping that the victory against Caley would have been a platform to build on. However, that has not worked out but there is no doubt that there are talented lads in that dressing room and we will look to stick together and start picking up three points from games." On-form Killie, backed by a travelling support of almost 2,500, cemented their place in fourth with the win and have taken 23 points from a possible 30 in recent weeks. However, Gallacher insists the Paisley club were at times superior to Mixu Paatelainen's side before Kelly grabbed the opening goal in the 64th minute. The 'keeper said: "I don't doubt that at times they were a joy to watch and they played well but I think we matched them and were better than them at some points. From our point of view we were bitterly disappointed to lose sloppy goals. We switched off at a free-kick and allowed them to get in and then they got a deflected goal for the second. We had dominated most of the first half but once they got the first goal after the break we sat back and allowed their influential players get on the ball and they got another goal, albeit with a deflection. There is no doubt Alexei Eremenko has ability and is breeding confidence throughout their team and you can see the way they pass the ball and keep the ball. So we are frustrated that we didn't get tighter and make them work for their result." Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is Scottish-Fitba Net
