Stevie Hammell Signs On Again

Something good must be happening at Fir Park under Craig Brown's rule. Motherwell manager Craig Brown has persuaded Stevie Hammell to extend his stay at Fir Park until the summer of 2012. Hammell is the first of the club's out-of-contract players to extend his contract. The left-back, who is in his second spell at Fir Park after rejoining the club from Southend in January 2008, has made 334 appearances in claret and amber. The Scotland cap said: "I am delighted to have things sorted out. I've been discussing my own situation for a while now and it's a relief to know everyone has been tied up. There's quite a few of the boys out of contract here and hopefully I'll be the first of many to stay on for a while yet. We've done fairly well this season so if we can keep the core of the squad together then who knows where we can go. For me personally, I just want to continue to keep on doing my best for the club. Someone was just asking me about my appearance total for Motherwell and now that I am here for another two years, hopefully I can add a few to that." Meanwhile, manager Brown has agreed two-year professional contracts with five of their under-19 squad - defenders Jordan Halsman and Dario Quinn, midfielder Peter Innes and forwards Steven Lawless and Gary Smith.
