Stevenson Wants Players To Take Responsibility

managers get it in the neck if the team is not playing well but they are not on the pitch during the 90 minutes.

Lewis Stevenson hopes Hibs can use the point gained at Celtic as the foundation for their climb up the SPL table. Hibs have struggled under Colin Calderwood since he took over as manager 12 months ago, securing just 12 wins out of a possible 48 and losing 25 along the way. However, Stevenson believes the players must take responsibility for much of what has happened on the field. They have to build on the momentum gained by securing a point at Parkhead when they play 11th-placed Dunfermline at Easter Road on Saturday. The midfielder said: "It's up to the players. If we're not performing you feel sorry for the manager. We've got a decent run of games, on paper (against Dunfermline, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone). If we get some good results we're not that far from being at the top end of the league. We know ourselves we're decent enough players and we should be higher up in the league. I'm sure if we can get a wee run going and get a bit of confidence back there's no reason why we can't get up there." Stevenson was a substitute in the win at St Mirren and in the Scottish Communities League Cup quarter-final loss to Celtic before being recalled for the SPL encounter at Parkhead. It was his first start since August, but he is far from complacent about retaining his place for the fixture with the Pars. Stevenson said: "It's a great result, but it was only a point. If we don't get a result against Dunfermline it won't mean much. I got a chance at the start of the season and maybe didn't make the most of it. I can only blame myself. I got a chance again at the weekend. We got a decent result, but there are a lot of players in the squad who could easily play. We watched the games over and you can tell when things aren't going well. I don't think I've played badly. I've had five, 10-minute spells when my head went. I need to get that out of my system."
