Step Back To Make Progress

Best laid plans can go off the rails so it is good that Nicky Devlin's old club are happy to lend a hand

Motherwell defender Nicky Devlin has extended his loan spell at his first club Dumbarton for a further month after he impressed new Sons manager Ian Murray. Devlin was a stand-out for the Sons of the Rock aged just 17 and the Steelmen made their move for him after just a handful of games in 2011. However, the hand of fate and a cruciate ligament injury just after his move delayed his progress.  Devlin headed back to the Sons in August on loan arranged by former manager Alan Adamson. Murray has decided to keep Devlin for longer than originally planned after fine displays in the wins over Falkirk and Morton. Murray said: "Nicky has done really well here and with the SPL shut-down for a couple of weeks it made sense for him to keep playing with Dumbarton."
