Spiders Back In Europe

Winter warm-weather training earned the young Spiders prizes. Can they do it again? Last season, Queen’s Park became the first European amateur club to be allocated funding under the European Communities Leonardo Da Vinci Initiative to send a party of young players and coaching staff to a two week winter training camp. They have managed to repeat their success and members of the Spiders Under-19 and Under-17 squads will be travelling to Antalya in Turkey early next year. Their initial trip took them to the Algarve, in January 2010, where they rubbed shoulders with other young players from the likes of Ajax and Hibs. Last season’s Portuguese trip was a success as far as head coach Gardner Speirs was concerned. He said: “Our Under-17 side came back to win a league and cup double whereas Under-19 defender Paul Gallacher returned to claim a regular starting spot in the first team all the way to the Play-Offs. Five other players have stepped up to the first team squad for this season so I am hoping that the Turkey trip brings about the same success.” Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba.net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
