Contrasting fortunes leadng up to the quarter final of the Communities League Cup

Aberdeen defender Mark Reynolds is keen to continue the Dons fine run and make it to the Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final after seeing off St Mirren tonight. The Pittodrie side notched up their 12th unbeaten game on Saturday when they beat Dundee 2-0. Reynolds is hoping game number 13 will be unlucky for St Mirren. He said: "There is a feelgood factor about the city and certainly around the club. I think getting to the semi-final would just increase that again. The boys in the changing room feel we are playing well and we are getting the results we deserve. We are working hard and it is paying off. If we can keep that going, we don't see why we can't have a successful season.'' While Aberdeen are have hit a decent seam of form, the Buddies have struggled of late, losing three successive SPL games, to St Johnstone, Celtic and Dundee United. That does not mean it will be a stroll in the park for Reynolds and his team mates. He went on: "League form goes out of the window when it comes to cup football. We just need to turn up and the Aberdeen team that goes there and plays like it has been doing in the last few weeks in the league. If that team turns up, we should progress to the next round. Obviously we consider this an extremely important match. In the league you can recover if you fail because you've got many other league matches to follow but there's no recovery from a faulty cup tie so we've got to have full concentration and be at our very best. I've looked at St Mirren in the last couple of games and they were the dominant side on Saturday although they lost the game. They had a heavy defeat to Celtic, they recovered and that is testament to the quality they've got in their team. We've got a game on that's for sure. We're in no doubt that it will be a difficult fixture.'' St Mirren manager Danny Lennon is determined to better his own cup record when his side head to Aberdeen for the game tonight. The game will be the fourth time the Buddies manager has made to the last eight of a competition during his two years in charge of the Paisley club. Lennon heads into the game at Pittodrie desperate to witness his side's progression to the semis and see them take a step closer to the ultimate aim of filling a space on the St Mirren trophy cabinet. He said: "In my two years at the club, this will be my fourth quarter-final and I've yet to progress beyond that so the cups are very important. It's the best, and most realistic, opportunity for any silverware for our football club. The cup gives you five games to bring our your best, whereas in the league you've got to do that every week. `We strive to do that but it is more demanding on the players.''
