Silver Lining To European Dark Clouds

Joe Ledley is hoping Rangers' involvement in the Champions league will help Celtic take the SPL to Parkhead. Celtic were knocked out an the qualifying stages of UEFA's top competition and the Europa League. Joe Ledley sees the one possible benefit to this disappointment is that they will have at least six free midweeks when Rangers, who have a much smaller squad, are playing in the Champions League. Asked if the Light Blues' programme could have a positive impact on Celtic's quest to win the SPL title, the former Cardiff City defender said: "Hopefully. Obviously they will be playing Tuesday or Wednesday then a game on a Saturday or Sunday. Maybe it will be to our advantage but we will find in a couple of weeks or maybe longer. But we are doing well at the moment, we are creating chances and scoring goals so we will keep concentrating on ourselves and you never know what will happen." Ledley signed a four-year contract in the summer following his exit from Cardiff and is enjoying his time at Celtic Park, especially after moving from left back in to his favourite position in midfield. He said: "I have been playing in the middle in the last couple of games and I think I've done really well. There are a lot of players fighting for places in the team and it's great to have that, it keeps players on their toes. So I'm enjoying every minute and have gelled in well with the team. It's a great club. People will say the Championship is better than Scottish football but I think it is similar. It is a tough league and the teams you play against up their game and try to beat you. We are doing well at the moment. We have a 100 per cent record in the league and if we keep playing well and getting the three points then you never know what we can do." Kilmarnock have won three games in succession, against Airdrie, Aberdeen and St Mirren, but manager Mixu Paatelainen is wary of his players becoming over-confident. The Finn said: "It's very early doors. We have had an okay start to the season but I know we can play a lot better. We can't take anything for granted and have to keep our feet on the training ground. They have been very receptive on the training ground on how we want to pass the ball and defend and so far it has been working. But the mind is strange because when you're doing well you have a tendency to take your foot off the gas and take things for granted. That's where problems start so we have to make sure no-one gets complacent. That's why we keep analysing matches when we win, so we keep doing well."
