Shinnie Hope For A Start

Professional athletes hate to be injured and cannot wait to return to the action

Inverness midfielder Andrew Shinnie is looking forward to continuing his comeback today against St Mirren after suffering the frustration of missing out on so many games. He returned to action in midweek for the first time since breaking his foot in January as Inverness secured their top flight status with a 0-0 draw against bottom club Dunfermline. While Shinnie started from the bench against the Pars he is hoping to be in the starting line-up today. Shinnie scored his first goal for the club against the Buddies and also scored in the 2-1 win at St Mirren Park with Caley Thistle unbeaten against today's hosts this season. He said: "My first goal was against them up here. That was the first game I really came into myself and I started to push on after that game. We had a great win there in December and I managed to get an early goal which settled us. We dug really deep that day and got a great result. A similar result and another goal for me would be great. They're a good team but I have enjoyed playing against them. I only got a short spell the other night but I really enjoyed it. It was just great to be back on the pitch and get a touch of the ball. I felt I did okay when I came on and felt quite sharp. If the gaffer wants to give me a start, I'm ready." Shinnie has developed a creative midfield role for himself after settling in the highland capital following an injury-hit end to his Rangers career. He scored a hat-trick in a memorable 6-3 away win at Kilmarnock in November. But, like many of Terry Butcher's team this season, injury disrupted his progress. Shinnie said: "It's been good and bad. I had some great times earlier in the season. I was on a decent spell of form and it was quite a blow with the injury because I have had some of them in the past. It really gets to you on a Saturday when you're sitting in the house looking out for the score when the boys are away playing. We have had a few injuries which has made it difficult for the manager. He's not had a set team to work with and a full squad to work with. Its been frustrating but we're in the league next season."
