SFA Announce New Manager

15 January 2013 10:51
The SFA will have SKY cameras at Hampden today at 12 o'clock for the announcement of the new Scotland manager

With Gordon Strachan about to be unveiled as the next Scotland manager can Scotland fans start checking the details of flights to major finals? The appointment of a new man in the hot seat does not bring new players along with him. Interim manager Billy Stark will be miffed that he has been overlooked but I think the SFA would have been under pressure not to have made such an appointment of a name. Strachan has been there at the sharp end of international football management which may bring some resistance to the appointment from some quarters. His time with Celtic did not start off well but I think he would call his time at Parkhead as successful overall. Just what he will do with the resources available to him is hard to judge. He has been quoted recently as saying that he would give as many players the opportunity to play for their country. Will this mark the end of some regular starts Scotland careers? There are talented players in the world who are eligible to play for Scotland but it is how they are moulded into a team that can stop the drop down the rankings that matter. Scotland fans, like all football fans, are a fickle bunch and will be looking for an instant transformation when the new manager takes over. How long will Strachan's honeymoon last? Will he be allowed to experiment for a few games before the media - who at the moment enjoy his cheeky chappie banter - turn on him? Strachan can come across as a clever dick in post game interviews and he will have to consider taking a second or three before firing off a quip when he is wearing the SFA blazer. Interesting time ahead I feel. Let's hope we enjoy the ride.Picture from the press conference will be available later on the SportPix website.
