Scott Brown could miss England-Scotland showdown

Celtic captain Scott Brown is a doubt for Scotland's World Cup qualifier against England at Wembley on Friday night.

The Hoops midfielder, who came out of retirement to help the Scots' ailing qualification hopes, came off with a numb foot just after the hour mark of Celtic's 3-0 Ladbrokes Premiership win over Inverness at Celtic Park.

Afterwards Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers said: "It is a sore one because even if he does get knocked he doesn't come off easy, so we will have to wait and see how that is.

"You know when he comes off it is a sore one.

"I haven't seen him for so long afterwards but we will know in the next 24 hours.

"I am sure he will (report to Scotland). I don't think there is anything to stop him, probably need to assess that over the next couple of days.

"It looked like the top of his foot, when he came off he said his foot was numb so I think he has obviously taken a fair whack because he doesn't come off easily so we will need to wait and see.

"The medical team here or at Scotland will decide whether he is fit to play or not."
