Second part of the story 6. Archie Gemmill v Holland 1978 - Goal Scotland needed to beat Holland by three clear goals to pip the Dutch (eventual tournament runners-up) for second place in their First Round group. Holland took the lead and then Kenny Dalglish netted for a half time score of 1-1. Enter Archie Gemmill with two memorable goals. Firstly Souness is bundled off the ball in the box and Gemmill slots home the pen then comes the famous 'mazy run' which ''puts the Scots 3-1 ahead and in dreamland '' (David Coleman). Rep makes it 3-2 final score and the 'glorious failure' Inbox takes another entry. 7. Jim Baxter v England 1963 - Goal Slim Jim netted two (one a pen) in our 2-1 win at Wembley to give us a clean sweep in the Home International Championship. Dennis Law scored 4 as we beat Northern Ireland 5-1 at Hampden in midweek. We had beaten Wales 3-2 in Cardiff a week before this Wembley triumph. Bryan Douglas netted the England goal. 8. Darren Fletcher v Lithuania 2011- missed After the controversial decisions by Dutch ref Kevin Blom against the Czech Republic Scotland were literally handed compensation for the pen that was (and wasn't) three days earlier when a Lithuanian defender decided to punch away a free kick as David Goodwillie was set to pounce inside the box. Captain Darren Fletcher had his spot kick saved but a later Steven Naismith goal kept Scotland on course for a play-off spot for Euro 2012.
