Scotland On The Brink Of Qualification

19 September 2012 13:05
If Scotland win well tonight it will set them up nicely for the play-offs for EURO2013

Scotland women footballers go into tonight's game with France knowing that they have already qualified for the play-offs to get to EURO2013 in Sweden. If they manage to beat France by four clear goals they will enter the play-off section as best runners up. With France sitting at number five in the FIFA rankings while Scotland can be found at 22, it is not a foregone conclusion that the home side will be able to achieve that, especially as the visitors will be keen to end the qualification group with a 100% record. However, coach Anna Signeul has built a determined squad with potential for goals from all areas and stranger things have happened when the pressure is off.

Scotland's final group game is to be played at Tynecastle which is the women's home ground. Hearts' Gorgie ground is is a favourite of many players with the atmosphere generated by the fans being so close to the pitch often been described as exceptional. Women's football, unfortunately, does not attract the kind of numbers that Hearts do on a regular basis in the SPL. However, the noise generated by the home ground could well be a telling factor if Scotland get off to a good start tonight. All part of whipping up the atmosphere is the best announcer on the scene at the moment, Scott Wilson. His famous 'Let's Make Some Noise' gets the fans going just before the referee starts the game. Wilson can be seen playing every ball from his position above the tunnel but is professionalism personified when called upon to keep the crowd informed of substitutes etc. Let's hope he is kept busy tonight announcing at least four goals for the home side. There is a cash gate tonight with prices set at £5 per adult ad £2 for children. Why not come along and help Scotland achieve their dreams.
