Scotland Get Another Chance To Make History

16 March 2011 11:50
Scotland's players get the chance to have their names quoted for years to come if they can overcome Brazil Just over 640 thousand fans have watched Scotland take on Brazil since they first met in 1966 and they have yet to see a Scotland win. The SFA hope that another 60,355 will be at the Emirates in London to see the sides meet again.  Out of the nine games the two countries have played each other, Brazil have won seven times and the other two games were drawn. Sunday 27 March provides another opportunity for Scotland to break that duck against one of the most famous footballing countries in the world. There are only three Scottish players who appear on the roll of honour that lists those who have scored against the Brazilians; Stevie Chalmers, David Narey and John Collins. Who will be the player a week on Sunday who will delight the travelling fans and join them? Manager Craig Levein has yet to announce his squad and much will depend on how the players perform at the five-day training camp at La Manga, Spain, in the week leading up to the game.Scotland and their fans have not been down to London to play since 1999 when they won 1-0 (Don Hutchison) in a failed attempt to make it to through the EURO2000 play-offs. The London weekend used to be a right of passage for the Scotland fan. The bi-annual takeover of London and its environs during the home internationals are part of legend with survival stories embellished as the years move on. However, there is a chance for new legends to be created on 27 March who will be proud to say - I was there!   Stade de France Paris80,000 FIFA World Cup 10 Jun 1998 2 - 1 (John Collins) Stadio delle Alpi Turin65,502 FIFA World Cup 20 Jun 1990 1 - 0 Hampden Park 41,384 Rous Cup 26 May 1987 0 - 2 Estadio Benito Villamarin Seville47,379 FIFA World Cup 18 Jun 1982 4 - 1 (David Narey) Maracana Rio de Janeiro60,763 International Challenge Match 23 Jun 1977 2 - 0 Wald Stadium Frankfurt62,000 FIFA World Cup 18 Jun 1974 0 - 0 Hampden Park 78,181 International Challenge Match 30 Jun 1973 0 - 1 Stadio Maracana Rio de Janeiro130,000 Brazilian Independence Cup 05 Jul 1972 1 - 0 Hampden Park 74,933 International Challenge Match 25 Jun 1966 1 - 1 (Stevie Chalmers) Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
