Saved From A Fate Worse Than Death

Three invaluable points gained is as good a way as any to end the year

No wonder St Mirren manager Danny Lennon was full of smiles last night. His side picked up a valuable three points after getting the all important odd goal in seven to win the game against Dundee United at Tannadice. with the 4-3 win at Tannadice that heaped further misery on Dundee United. David van Zanten is glad he was one of the scorers as otherwise he would have had to make good on a dare. If he had failed to score this season, he would have had to don a man-kini and sing 'Like a Virgin' in front of the Buddies fans. The right-back, who had not scored since 2006 while he was at Hibs, said: "A couple of my team-mates are raging, but it's more important we got the three points." Manager Lennon said of the result: "It's a fantastic three points for us and a terrific way to finish 2012. The key thing for us and our success today was the work-rate for the players individually and, more importantly, as a team. We're just going to ask the boys for one last push before a welcome break and look for the same commitment, the same work ethic and the same quality."
