Sandaza Is On The Way Back

Francisco Sandaza hopes to be be able to help in the final push Dundee United's Francisco Sandaza does not deserve to play from the start of any game. This is from the man himself despite scoring his first goal for more than a year against Hibs last week. The Spaniard made his comeback only last month after undergoing a double hernia operation last summer and is gearing up towards full sharpness by making a series of substitute appearances. Sandaza was United's top scorer last term and has watched his team-mates progress steadily throughout the season and knows that, while he is unlikely to replace Jon Daly or David Goodwillie from the starting squad, he can play an important role from the sub's bench. Speaking ahead of tonight's trip to St Johnstone, he said: "I was so pleased to get my goal against Hibs. It has been a year since I last scored so it was one of the most memorable because the last 12 months have been hard. I have never been injured for so long before, the most I had ever been out was a few weeks. Now I have finally scored again I feel I've beaten the injury and can now look forward. The team are doing very well and our strikers have been scoring goals so I know I can't expect to come straight back into the team. I will have to be patient and that will mean being on the bench. But as long as I can play some part for the team I am happy. It is a good time for the club, we are winning games and have a chance of getting to Europe and a cup final. So I'm just delighted to be over my injury and involved with the team again." Meanwhile, United manager Peter Houston believes the game takes place between two of the country's form teams. The Perth Saints go into the game on the back of a 4-1 victory over champions-elect Rangers, while United hammered third-place rivals Hibs by the same score line last week. With Hearts drawing with St Mirren at the weekend, Saints can secure a place in the top six so the stakes are high for both teams. Houston said: "Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty have done an incredible job in Perth. They've built a good side with a great blend of youth and experience. They can cap off their season by getting into the top six and that would be a fantastic achievement for any team that's just been promoted. But we've got to make sure we look after ourselves and get the points we need to stay in third place."
