Saints Hope To Beat The Weather

St Johnstone have used indoor facilities to avoid the weather ahead of the game against the Steelmen.

Striker Francisco Sandaza is "touch and go" for St Johnstone's game against Motherwell, according to manager Steve Lomas. The Spaniard missed last weekend's win over Hearts with a thigh injury. A player who has scored eight goals so far this season is a miss.

No wonder Lomas said: "Fran is touch and go for the weekend. We will give him every opportunity to play."Lomas, who will be without Frazer Wright, Jody Morris and Cillian Sheridan for Saturday's game, got a close up look at the opposition when the sides trained at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell.

With outdoor facilities a problem given the snow, rain and storm-force winds of this week, only a curtain separated the players from Motherwell and St Johnstone. Despite the chance to sneak a look round the curtain, Lomas said: "It wasn't a problem. Motherwell, if they are anything like us, will have us well-scouted.

We are just worried about ourselves." Saints can give themselves the chance of taking third place with a win over Motherwell, who they trail by four points, ahead of their rearranged home game against Aberdeen. Lomas said: "The lads are professional enough.

They are just looking at it as another tough game coming up and looking for that level of performance that we've had in the last three games." Meanwhile, Stevie May has followed younger players such as Liam Caddis and Stephen Reynolds in going out on loan, with Alloa his destination until mid-January. Lomas said: "At the start I said it wasn't fair on young boys who get to a certain level and are not playing football.

They have got to be getting out to play some football."
