Rugby Park Football Suits Racchi

Danny Racchi likes to play with the ball on the deck and Killie is his kind of team.

Danny Racchi heard a lot about the style of passing football Kilmarnock played before he engineered a move to Rugby Park. He has had a frustrating time as he strives to get into the starting line up on a regular basis. The midfielder has only made one start, in the 1-1 draw with Hibs in November, but has made his mark off the bench in recent games. he was on hand to score in the 2-1 defeat by Celtic on Christmas Eve and played most of the defeat at St Johnstone after replacing the injured Rory McKeown alongside James Dayton. Racchi is looking for his first Rugby Park start after a back injury hindered the start of his career in Scotland. The Englishman said: "Obviously the start of the season was a little bit frustrating with being injured. Pre-season was going quite well, I was scoring a few goals. The injury kept recurring and I missed four or five games. But the team was doing well when I got back to fitness. I played a few games here and there and obviously want to get more minutes on the pitch. I felt I could offer something to the team. Lately I have been getting in and doing quite well. My goal at Parkhead might have helped me and I hit the post on Wednesday night against St Johnstone and played the majority of the game. So it's looking good for me personally that I'm getting a bit more game time and offering a threat in front of goal. Hopefully I can bed myself in the first team in the next couple of games."The former Huddersfield and Bury player arrived from York on a two-year deal after being tipped off about the chance to further his career under Killie manager Kenny Shiels. Racchi said: "My agent's son, Ben Gordon, was on loan here last season. He spoke to me and with the type of football I play, he said Kilmarnock would be a great option. I came up and spoke to the gaffer and got a deal sorted out. I played in League One or League Two in England and it's only rarely that you get passages of play where you get really good football. Most of the game goes over your head. Coming up here and watching teams get the ball down and pass it on the deck is great, especially for a player like me. In my opinion it's a better standard than probably bar the Championship and upwards in England. I think I've become accustomed to the type of football, it's not hard to control and pass the ball. You play against the bigger teams - Hearts, Celtic and Rangers - then they are physically stronger but you get used to it. The philosophy the gaffer has and the style of play is brilliant for me. That's one of the reasons it's been so frustrating. The type of football we play, I feel I have something to offer. Hopefully I can add a few goals. I'm champing at the bit to get in that side and get going."
